Hodson’s Coach Hire: FAQs

This page should answer any questions you have about booking a coach, but if you can’t find what you’re looking for – please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

Q. How old must you be to hire a coach?
A. For your safety, there is an age limit for booking a coach with Hodson’s: you must be at least 18 years old.

Q. When I hire a coach from Hodson’s, does it include the driver?
A. Yes. All coaches include the services of a PCV driver.

Q. Is smoking allowed on Hodson’s Coaches?
A. No since July 2007, UK law has not allowed smoking. Consequently, all our coaches are no-smoking vehicles. We will not offer any flexibility on this, however, our drivers will endeavour to make designated comfort breaks during the course of a journey.

Q. Is alcohol allowed?
A. No. We do not allow alcohol to be consumed on any of our coaches, but it may be transported to an event (other than a designated sporting event) in the vehicle’s luggage compartment.

Q. What are your methods of payment when booking a coach?
A. Cheques payable to Hodson’s Coaches should be received by ourselves a minimum of seven working days before the departure date. BACS details are available on request. Cheques are made payable to Hodson’s Coaches (Clitheroe) Ltd

Q. Is the driver flexible re: ‘stopping off’ at other locations en-route?
A. Not without prior arrangement, no.
You can, however, stipulate pre-planned stops at the time of the booking. Otherwise the designated stops will be as indicated on your booking form.

Q. Can I amend arrangements after confirmation of booking a coach – and will there be any additional costs?
A. With enough notice, we are happy to offer flexibility regarding pick up and return arrangements. However, unreasonable hours and the need for a larger vehicle might well incur additional cost.
We will advise you prior to the journey. Similarly, any difficulty with regard to amended pick up and return arrangements will be notified immediately.

Q. What happens if illness of one of my party results in soiling or damage to the coach?
A. In order to cover cleaning costs, we will charge a fee of £50 to the person who reserved and booked the coach.

Q. Do your coaches have seatbelts? Do I have to wear it?
A. While the vehicle is in motion it is compulsory to wear a seatbelt, these are fitted in all our coaches. Wearing a seatbelt is a legal requirement so cannot be subject to any flexibility on the part of Hodson’s Coaches.

Q. What arrangements are there for refreshment and toilet stops?
A. At Hodson’s Coaches, our policy is that all drivers should make designated comfort stops en-route to your destination. Please note, though, that stopping on the hard shoulder is illegal, however desperate you may be!

Q. What arrangements are in place for deposit refund in the event of cancellation?
A. Payment of the deposit serves to confirm your booking. It is not refundable.

Q. Do you have a complaints procedure?
A. Yes. Our priority is to provide a first class service at all times. In the unlikely event that you have any cause for concern, the initial action should be to approach a staff member to rectify the problem. Failing this, please, contact our Head Office within 48 hours of the completion of your journey and with full detail of your grievance. We will do everything we can to reach a satisfactory conclusion.

Q. What sizes of coach do you have available?
A. We have a wide range of vehicles in our executive fleet so you can book a coach which suits your specific needs perfectly, from 16 and 24 seater coaches to 84 seaters and everything in between!
